Arturo Lindsay: LOVE is the final exhibition in a series of three solo exhibitions in which the artist explores both the personal and collective emotional experiences. LOVE proposes to examine the power of art to enhance the experience of love. Arturo has spent over twenty years creating works of art that address “the challenges he faces as he shifts from teaching through art, to learning from making that is spiritually and emotionally very personal.” His work examines the spiritual and aesthetic retentions rediscovereis and re-inventions of African cultures in America. As a Pamanian raised in Brookyn, Arturo brings a unique perspective of his dual identity to his work. ST. JOSEPH’S COLLEGE COUNCIL FOR THE ARTS PRESENTS
A PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT BY LOCAL ARTIST MERYL SPIEGEL
Exhibit Explores People and Sites of New York

Patchogue, NY – August 15, 2007 – The St. Joseph’s College Council for the Arts is proud to display the photography of Meryl Spiegel, college professor, journalist and art photographer, in the Board Room Gallery located in O’Connor Hall on its Long Island Campus. In her work, Spiegel documents the beauty and charm that surrounds her, sometimes combining images with text, while wandering from Montauk to Manhattan. The photographs will be on display from September 5 to October 4, 2007.

Meryl Spiegel has created a college course, “Writing Through the Lens,” that has been offered at Suffolk County Community College and incorporates various writing techniques she has developed through her photography. She studied photography in France and New York City and became interested in documentary film making while employed at Time-Life Films.

“After working at Time-Life Films, I realized that making documentaries was a very complicated, expensive group effort and that I would prefer creating mini-documentaries on my own by focusing on the still image,” explains Spiegel.

Meryl Spiegel has exhibited her work in galleries, museums and college campuses throughout Long Island. Her exhibit at St. Joseph’s College will include 12 colorful pieces from her recently completed books of photo essays entitled, Wandering New York, which explores street life in and around Manhattan and is currently seeking publication. The exhibit will also include many of her vibrant photographs of East End landscapes.
