Marilyn Stevenson of Southampton will be exhibiting a series of her photographs at the Levitas Center For The Arts at the Southampton Cultural Center.
The show will be a selection of 27 color photographs inspired by and photographed at the world renowned “Presby Memorial Iris Garden” in Montclair, New Jersey. Displaying the beauty of the Iris reminds us of the pleasures of spring. The vision of the Iris is a long lasting treat for the senses. Marilyn has created a photographic garden in bloom at the Levitas Center For The Arts.
The exhibit entitled “Iris Fields” will be on view from September 26th through October 11, 2009. A wine & cheese reception will be held Saturday, October 10, 4-6:00 at the Southampton Cultural Center, 25 Pond Lane, Southampton, N.Y. All are welcome to attend.
Marilyn studied photography at the International Center for Photography and Southampton College. She is currently assistant director of New Century Artist Gallery in New York City. Helen Harrison of The New York Times said her work is “a glowing image that fans out like a rising phoenix spreading its wings”. “Not only visionary but metaphysical,” her works “fill the gallery space with luminescence” says J. Sanders Eaton of Gallery and Studio Magazine.
Marilyn received an honorable mention award from “Women in Photography International” this past August in their Summer 09 Children juried show. This exhibit can be viewed online at www.womeninphotography.org
Additional work of Marilyn’s can also be seen at the East End Arts Council’s annual juried show 133 Main St. Riverhead through Oct. 10.
